Latest on accommodation:

WheelPower are progressing development plans for Stoke Mandeville Stadium and as a result the accommodation on site will not be available from 1st November 2025. The impact of this development is that accommodation for the attendees at training weekends is limited as the Holiday Inn has a finite number of rooms available for disabled guests. The result is that new people attending training weekends may have to source their own accommodation.

Pauline has negotiated a Holiday Inn Breakfast for £12 per person for those members who are using the hotel.

To help with the cost there will be contributions from Wheelpower & BWAA to make the cost per room £60 for our members.

If staying at an alternative hotel we will require receipts before paying any difference to bring the cost down to £60/room/per night.

Booking for the weekend is done through the Association. We need to limit numbers to 22 archers per weekend. Any issues must be channelled via Pauline Betteridge

We hold Training weekends at Stoke Mandeville Stadium (The post code is HP21 9PP) we have access to the Main Hall, Saturday 09.00h -17.00h & Sunday 09.00h – 12.00h.

The onsite canteen does offer food option during lunch times.

If you intend to bring an assistance dog a copy of the passport / documentation must be forwarded to us. NO OTHER DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON SITE.

We are requesting that the money is either transferred directly to our account one week prior to the weekend or if not possible paid by cash at the weekend.

Booking for the weekend opens 1 month before the weekend

You need to book for the weekends at least 3 weeks prior to the weekend & there is no cancellation in the week prior to the weekend. If you are not able to come to the weekend we unfortunately have to bill you for 100% of your booking.

We have coaches who have taken an interest in coaching those with a disability & therefore have experience of dealing with a range of problems.

We have a number of coaches available at BWAA weekends, some archers also bring their personal coach.

Approximately 1 week prior to the weekend you will be sent a list with your coach allocated to you for the weekend. How much time will depend on the pathway decided between the coach & the archer.

There is a charge of £8 per weekend towards coaching and a shooting fees of £5 per half day session. The coaching levy for each day will remain the same and are not optional.

We are able to advise on how to correct postural & seating issues.

Please make sure you register your car registration at either the hotel or sports stadium reception on arrival as this will protect you from getting a parking ticket.

If you park in a disabled bay you MUST display your blue badge, they are very strict on their use.

Please use our online booking form to book for weekends which will automatially go to Pauline Betteridge.

BWAA TRAINING WEEKENDS

The BWAA has a dedicated team of coaches who are all familiar with the needs of para-archers. We assume that by coming to our weekends you want to be coached with the aim of improving your archery. If you just want to shoot, then let us know and we’ll leave you in peace!

Our coaches generally work in teams of 2. We try to keep the allocation constant, but sometimes coach availability means we have to change things.

The core of our activities is individual coaching. A coach will assess your current technique and then make suggestions. This will be followed by instruction and monitored practice. Coaches often use video for analysis and feedback and we have our own overhead rig on which you can be coached and practice with video feedback.

We also offer small group coaching sessions. These vary from month to month and are aimed at the novice or intermediate archer. They will generally focus on the foundations of good technique and how to build it and practice it.

For any of you with aspirations to the higher level, we will support any plan you are working to. If you haven’t got one, then some of coaches will help you to set one up.

Finally, we will help you with equipment issues such as bow set up and tuning. This is normally done on Sunday mornings when things are a bit quieter.

We also offer advice on personal equipment such as stools and wheelchairs as well as signposting towards classification. These are done outside the coaching programme.

We hope you will find something of interest in here to encourage you to come along. If you have any questions or requests then make them known.

We are a friendly bunch – really!
